Q. The customer already has radios. Can these match them?
A. Our radios are available in both UHF (450-470 mhz) and VHF (150-174 mhz) bands, and easily matches up with every radio in these bands, from any maker. Blackbox even works with repeaters.

Q. Are they programmable, or come with set frequencies like FRS radios?
A. Yes, they are PC programmable. Our radios are professional, not FRS or GMRS.

Q. I’ve never heard of Blackbox. Who is the manufacturer?
A. Blackbox is a product of Klein Electronics, Inc. Since 1991, Klein Electronics, Inc. has built gear for 2-way radios and Cellular phones. Klein Electronics contracts the production to their specifications.

Q. What do they compare with?
A. The specifications are comparible to the Vertex VX160.

Q. Is the programming of the radio difficult?
A. It is a simple, PC based program. Cables and software are very inexpensive.

Q. What about the FCC?
A. Since Blackbox is a professional radio, not an FRS, and is 4 watts of power, each user should have an FCC license for the frequencies used. The re-seller does not handle this, it is the sole responsibility of the end user. Simple forms are included with each radio shipment.

Q. Is Blackbox a trunking radio?
A. No. Blackbox is a conventional radio. Although they are able to be used with repeaters, they are not compatible with trunking repeaters. Trunking is one type of platform used to relay signal.

Q. Are they tough, like Motorola?
A. Blackbox radios are made to the highest standards. They are Military Spec tough, and include an aluminum frame. They have been tested and are in use in such environments as Racing, which causes a lot of vibration, noise, and dust.

Q. What is the warranty?
A. The warranty for Blackbox radios is one year, parts and labor. Warranty may include simple repairs, or a full replacement of the radio. Warranty covers only factory defects, not abuse. Don’t try to fix them yourself, as opening up the radio may cause the warranty to not be valid if you tear apart or break something.

Q. What about headsets, longer-life batteries, or other things?
A. The Blackbox line is complete, with earpieces, mics, headsets, optional high-capacity batteries, carry cases, 6-unit chargers, rapid chargers, etc.
